GAW 2018 National Secondary School Photo Competition


BRIEF

The Department's Seventh National Secondary School Photo Competition is now open to ALL students in ALL forms. Our Geography Awareness Week theme this year is 'Climate Change Impacts'. Students are required to capture images which evince climate change within Trinidad and Tobago. Do you think Climate Change is real? Are we seeing the impacts already? This is your chance to show us!

RULES


  • Photographs must be taken anytime between September 26th and November 4th, 2018. All complete entries MUST be received by midnight on Sunday 4th November, 2018
  • Each photo MUST be sent as a high quality .JPG or .PNG file in an attachment. To ensure eligibility for the contest all entries must have a resolution of 5 megapixels (5MP) or greater
  • Multiple entries are allowed and must be sent to geog.uwi@gmail.com
  • All photos must be taken by the contestant within the contest period in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Contestants may not submit work that has previously been submitted for judgement

SUBMISSION


For a COMPLETE contest entry, each entry MUST be accompanied by an entry form with:

(1) The full name of the student who took the photo, the name of their teacher, and the name
      of their school
(2) The title of the photo
(3) The date and the location the photo was taken – All photos must be taken between September
      26th and November 4th, 2018 by the contestant – specify the exact date and the exact place
(4) A max 250 word explanation of the theme, “Climate Change Impacts” captured in your
      photo, and how it represents human or physical geography in Trinidad and Tobago.

Like and share the photo competition post on social media, tag your friends. Incomplete entries will NOT be considered. Photos will be judged on their quality as well as their description. The Department of Geography reserves the right to refuse to award prizes in the case where insufficient entries, or entries of a substandard quality, have been submitted.

JUDGING

Photographs will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Quality
  • Meaning
  • Graphics/Artistic Effects
  • Written Description
PRIZES

Contest winners will be notified through their School Principals. Winners will be invited to the National Photo Competition Awards Ceremony at the UWI-STA Campus to receive prizes. Please refer to the Calendar of Events for further details.

1ST PRIZE:

• The First Prize Winner will receive a digital camera plus a package.
• The First prize photo may appear in promotional activities for all future Geography Awareness         Week events and may be used by The UWI-STA Geography Department in perpetuity along with the Winner’s name and their composition, or excerpts thereof.
• The First Prize Winner’s School will receive a framed photo of the winning entry to commemorate their participation in the UWI-STA Geography Awareness Week, 2018.

2ND PRIZE:

• The Second Prize Winner will receive $400TT plus a package.
• The Second prize photo may appear in promotional activities for all future Geography Awareness Week events and may be used by The UWI-STA Geography Department in perpetuity along with the Winner’s name and their composition, or excerpts thereof.
• The Second Prize Winner’s School will receive a framed photo of the winning entry to commemorate their participation in the UWI-STA Geography Awareness Week, 2018.

3RD PRIZE:

• The Third Prize Winner will receive $200TT plus a package.
• The Third prize photo may appear in promotional activities for all future Geography Awareness Week events and may be used by The UWI-STA Geography Department in perpetuity along with the Winner’s name and their composition, or excerpts thereof.
• The Third Prize Winner’s School will receive a framed photo of the winning entry to commemorate their participation in the UWI-STA Geography Awareness Week, 2018.

To complete your entry, email the Geography Awareness team at geog.uwi@gmail.com with your photo attached, along with the acknowledgement that all contest rules (Section 2) have been met. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement of your email.

Note: All photos may appear in promotional activities for all future Geography Awareness Week events and be used by the UWI-STA Geography Department in perpetuity along with the names of the students, teachers, schools, the full composition, or excerpts thereof.
