National Secondary School Photo Contest 2016


BRIEF

The Department's Fifth National Photo Competition is now open for Geography and Environmental Science students in all Forms! The Geography Awareness Week theme this year is called "Making Connections" and as such requires students to take photos to that captures an issue related to the competition theme below. This is an excellent opportunity to share students' lived local geographies with a wider community and be recognized for documenting their world. 

COMPETITION THEME

Geography as the spatial discipline in which "everything connects."

For the first time ever, photo entries can be made using original photos with additional multimedia effects or artistic techniques to support the theme!


RULES

  • Photos must be original and taken in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Subjects can be people, landscapes or a combination.
  • Permission must be granted for human subjects or identifying information (e.g. photo of a dwelling).
  • Photos must be 5 MP (megapixels) or greater.
  • Photos must be taken between Sept 19th and Nov 6th 2016.
  • Students must email high quality .JPEGs, .PNGs or .GIF formats.
  • Contestants may not submit work that was previously submitted.
  • Entries must be sent to geog.uwi@gmail.com.
  • Multiple entries are allowed.
  • Teachers are encouraged to email on behalf of the students in their classes to ensure both quality and originality of the submissions received.
  • Contest winners will be notified through their School Principals.
  • Contest winners will be invited to the UWI-STA Campus to recieve their prizes on Nov 19th 2016.
  • Winning Photos may appear in promotional activities for all future Geography Awareness Week event and be used by the UWI-STA Geography Department in perpetuity along with the Winner's name and composition or excerpts thereof. 
  • DEADLINE: 30 OCT 2016. EXTENDED UNTIL NOV 6th


SUBMISSION FORMAT

To be considered eligible, please follow the format presented below. Incomplete entries will not be considered.


  • Full Name of Student
  • Name of Teacher
  • Name of School
  • Title of Photo
  • Date & Location of Where Photo was taken
  • A Max 200-word explanation of "Making Connections" theme captured in your photo(s) and how it relates to Geography.


JUDGING

Photos will be judged on the following criteria:
  • Quality
  • Meaning
  • Graphics/Artistic Effects
  • Written Description

PRIZES

  • The winning photos will be framed and present to the winning student's schools.

1st Place

  • A Digital Camera
  • $200 Teacher's Gift Certificate to the UWI Bookshop

2nd Place

  • Gift Hamper from the UWI-STA Geography Club
  • $100 Student Gift Certificate to the UWI Bookshop
  • $200 Teacher's Gift Certficate to the UWI Bookshop

3rd Place

  • Gift Hamper from the UWI-STA Geography Club
  • $50 Student Gift Certificate to the UWI Bookshop
  • $200 Teacher's Gift Certificate to the UWI Bookshop
